Tips for Keeping Acrylic Brushes Clean Between Uses

3 minute read

Keeping your acrylic nail brushes clean between uses is crucial to ensure they stay in top condition and continue to provide precise application. The last thing you want is for your brushes to become caked and stained with product buildup. That’s why it’s important to make proper brush cleaning part of your nail routine. Make sure your manicure tools stay in good shape with these tips for keeping acrylic brushes clean between uses.

Clean As Soon as You’re Done

Cleaning your acrylic nail brushes should be the final step of every manicure. Storing your brushes without rinsing and wiping them thoroughly causes your acrylics to linger in the bristles. The residue will harden, making it harder to clean in the future. Even worse, the bristles will stain or clump together, ruining the neat, clean look of any future manicures.

Monomer vs. Acetone

One of the most important tips for keeping your acrylic brushes clean is to use the right products to soak and rinse your brushes.

Many people use either liquid monomer or acetone to cleanse their acrylic brushes. Monomer is gentle. It takes longer to fully soak and clean the brushes, but it won’t dry out your bristles when you use it.

Acetone is harsher, making it more effective—especially on stubborn, hardened bits of acrylic. If you use acetone, you can recondition your brushes with liquid monomer afterward to keep them soft and gentle on your nails.

You can also use Mia Secret’s brush cleaner and brush conditioner to keep your nail brushes in salon-worthy condition. The brush cleaner gently but effectively removes all residue from your acrylic system. After use, a quick dip in the brush conditioner rehydrates the bristles and keeps your brush soft and pristine.

Be Gentle When Rinsing

Once your brushes are done soaking, remove them and rinse with warm water to remove the last of the acrylic. Take care during this step. Don’t scrub or pull on the bristles, and don’t try to pick out stubborn bits of acrylic. You could end up pulling the bristles out and damaging the brush. If you can’t get the brush completely clean, try soaking it again.

Dry and Store Properly

When your brushes are clean and soft again, the only thing you have to do is let them dry. Always air dry your brushes rather than patting them with a towel. It takes longer, but it keeps the bristles in better condition.

Lay your brushes horizontally so that the moisture doesn’t seep back through the bristles and into the handle. When your brushes are dry, store them safely with the rest of your nail tools until you’re ready for your next acrylic manicure.
