Jennifer Lopez eloped with husband Ben Affleck in Las Vegas back in July, but the couple still wanted to celebrate with family and friends. So the pair decided to host an intimate wedding celebration on August 20 at Affleck’s home in Riceboro, Georgia. Of course, Lopez made sure that everything was perfectly designed, right down to her nails.
Lopez’s long-time nail artist Tom Bachik was tasked with creating a unique look just for the occasion. “I worked closely with Jen’s stylist to get an overall feel of her looks and the vibe for the weekend,” says Bachik. “I gave her a full set of almond extension soak-off gel tips a couple of days before the wedding, polishing them with Mia Secret Gelux in Pale Rose.”
Bachik also brought with him three additional sets of nails, all with the same Almond Extension Soak Off Gel Tips so Lopez would have options to choose from. “Jen wanted simple, clean, elegant looks that were beautiful and fresh. I wanted to create designs that would then work with all of her outfits regardless of which nail set she chose (also in case she wanted a different look each day),” he says.
White was the theme for the secret nuptials, even the guests were instructed to wear shades of white for the Big Day, so Bachik decided to incorporated white into the nails in a variety of ways.
“I created a solid white mini French tip by mixing Gelux White with Luxury Base & Top Gel for a semi sheer ‘milky’ look and even a solid white nail. Pearls were the accessory of choice, so in finishing I added a touch of pearl elements to each of the looks. And, of course, a tiny hand-painted hummingbird special to Jen,” he explains.
According to Lopez’s newsletter, On the JLo, hummingbirds hold a special meaning to her: “I’ve always had a special connection with hummingbirds,” she wrote. “Whenever I am in a moment of doubt and confusion, one will magically appear by my window, reminding me that the universe will always speak to us if we are open to the sign.”
As Bachik noted on Instagram, “Intimate moments and personal details [are] what made Jennifer’s custom wedding nails so special.”
